Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) is Pakistan’s popular qualification for 16 to 18 years old. It is recognized by leading universities and employers not only in Pakistan but also in abroad. This qualification is renowned for developing vital educational skills, including recall of known, oral skills, problem solving, initiative, team work and investigative skills. The Higher Secondary School Certificate, also known as HSSC, is a public examination taken by Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Punjab (Pakistan), after finishing Matriculation in grade IX-X; the students 17 to 19 years in grade XI-XII take the Higher Secondary examination. The Higher Secondary Certificate is subdivided in Science, General Science and non-Science programmes. The students concentrating in Science programmes are awarded Faculty in Science (F.Sc.) in which the students choose their Pre-Engineering, Pre-medical. Whereas, in General Science, Computer Science related programmes are offered. For students who want to pursue their career in Social Sciences and Humanities, HSSC provides Faculty in Arts (FA) which is a holistic approach of all the contemporary social sciences subjects.

Curriculum:

HSSC curriculum offers variety of routes for learners with a wide range of abilities, along with the ways that can help them to refine their abilities and skills. The syllabus is set by Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala (BISE). The curriculum usually includes a combination of seven courses including elective and compulsory subjects. Subjects offered are rigorously taught by seasoned and experienced faculty, with extensive training on the programme.

The course differs for each subject, but there will be a mix of assessment methods, which may include coursework, practical exercises, oral and listening tests, projects and written examinations. HSSC is two year duration education and examination is held by BISE Gujranwala annually for each year. The certificate is awarded on the basis of Part-I and Part-II examinations comprising 1100 marks in total. The students failing in Part-I examination cannot repeat it; but have to reappear along with their Part-II examination.
